: First, eliminate preseason division assignments. Second, only league champions are automatic qualifiers. There are about 100 leagues in the southern section. Rank them from 1-100, evenly distributed them over the 9 divisions. Then rank the remaining teams and distribute them to fill them remaining slots in each division. The top 32 teams minus the Open teams would be in Div 1, then move down and do the same to the remaining divisions. This will make sure no teams with solid winning records miss the playoffs and it doesn’t reward a team that went O-16 in the preseason then finished second in their extremely poor league.
Give me some examples of really bad leagues. Because no matter how bad a league is I can guarantee you that there are at least one good team from each league.
