: : OK - I have a number of concerns with this possible course of action ...
: : 1, As a parent are you setting a precedent that says every time something doesn’t look good, we’ll make it go away.
: : 2. What about the academics at this school - how strong are they? Will they prepare him for college?
: : 3. What about the social implications - all his peers may be at the former school and then he comes home after day 1 and says “Nobody likes me here.” Another transfer?
: : 4. Finally, we’re talking FRESHMAN basketball ... give it a break - if your son is already known by the school as a “future varsity talent”, then come the season, he’ll more than likely be playing up
My opinion - im a volunteer coach - 35 years - seen everything - HS - Middle School - u name it - the Transfer epidemic that exists today is crazy. Too crazy. Every kid believes he is Gods gift to Hoops. Every parent thinks their kid is King - and every parent thinks they know more than the coach. And the coaches? OMG - They all really only care about wins and losses - for so many reasons. Winning is $ - win - and you have a job - and a future coaching - lose a lot - and you may lose your job. EGO plays into this too. Getting good players is imperative. IM old school - coach the local kids - build a team - build a foundation - anyone can win when you steal other schools good players.
