: : : : : : : : Victory for .500-in-league bureaucrats everywhere
: : : : : : : They will qualify.

: : : : : : At large bulletin said no at larges were taken for 5AA. They are in 5AA. They finished 4th in league.

: : : : : : Unless there was a misprint, they are done.
: : : : : Fued and vendetta between AD and Head Coach AD did not submit paperwork for playoffs.

: : : : Not disputing that, but unless someone in 5AA has a bye, the paperwork wouldn't have made a difference - there weren't any spots open according to the bulletin. I blame CIF for cramming too many schools into the lower divisions.

: : : 5AAA bracket has 6 byes. 5A has 8 byes. But 5AA had 35 auto-qualifiers and no at-large berths. Major failure.

: : : Two of the top ten teams in 5AA, St. Pius X- St. Matthias and Webb, don't get in, despite having qualifying records. Both play in leagues where all of the auto- qualifiers are in divs. 3 and 4. Neither of them have a single loss to a team in either their own division or 5A.

: : : In this case, CIF-SS has failed.

: : CIF could’ve placed them in 5AAA if they wanted to do that

: Last year the State CIF took the liberty of assigning state playoff divisions based on a whim when Carnegie moved up several divisions, and some larger schools inexplicably moved down. So why not wait until the postseason to assign divisions?

That would make a lot of sense. It would better support competitive equity because it would be based on the current season and not other seasons from the past. Not sure why we don't go to that.
