: The Lakers trade 2 of their promising players to clear cap space for next year hoping to AGAIN sign a big name free agent. Doubt they keep IT next year since he’s a free agent (doubt they’ll pay him and he’s probably not worth what he’ll ask for). They’ve been doing this crap for the last 6 yrs hoping to land a big name but to this day has not gotten anyone. Why don’t they just copy the Celtics and be patient with their young players, let them develop into a decent team then add a veteran marquee player later on. This current Lakers young team is about 2 yrs from making playoffs in my opinion. But now if they don’t sign anyone next year, sets them back another 5 yrs. Pls HIRE a good GM Lakers!

Nance was due an extension after next year and still has no jumper at age 24. He wasn't going to develop a jumper after passing up shots his whole career. Clarkson is having a great year but he's not the type of player two incoming stars would gel with, he is ball dominant and mediocre on D. Lakers were slated to be a treadmill team for years with that roster, not enough shooting or playmaking.

Lakers get a cap friendly late first round pick, and Isaiah may sign a one-year deal here if the Lakers strike out in 2018 on the big names. That would help IT rebuild his value, and the Lakers could trade him halfway through the year and tank for a better 2019 pick. It's "The Process" again, except Magic/Pelinka actually played the game, and Pelinka was a major agent too (unlike Sam Hinkie).
