: : Where’s. The coach & AD in this Situation? Yes it is crazy that every time something go on at Bosco people know directed Details.
: Isn't the rule, once you start HS, you have 4 years of eligibility and that's it?
: So if you started high school as a Freshman 5 years ago, regardless if you played sports or not and then say for whatever reason you didn't goto High school for a year after that (travel overseas or health problems, etc.) and now you're a senior 5 years later, you can't play since you're ineligible.
The rule is 8 consecutive semesters of eligibility.
Once you enroll as a freshman, the 8 semester "clock" starts to run.
It's not interrupted if a student repeats a grade or a semester. It's not interrupted if a student doesn't compete during one or more of those semesters. It continues to run.
The only way to stop the running of the clock, or to regain one or more semesters of eligibility that may have been lost (e.g., due to an unavoidable family crisis, a serious illness, etc.), is to apply for a "hardship" waiver of the rule.
But if a kid is enrolled say in the fall of 2013 as a freshman, and he then has 8 consecutive semesters (2 in 2013-14, 2 in 2014-15, 2 in 2015-16 and 2 in 2016-17), any kid that can do basic addition should be able to figure out that by 2018, he or she would have no more eligibility remaining, absent the CIF granting a "hardship" waiver of the rule.
It's just simple math. Really. Doesn't take a genius to figure it out.
