: : : Is there any question which team will win the ship in these 10 OC leagues?
: : : Trinity - Easy one here - even with the sprained ankle for Wang - Mater Dei has enough returners (including the next POTUS) and Frosh fire power to go undefeated. SM is the next closest and lost it big in the 4th.
: : : Freeway: Buena Park has been picked to dethrone the perennial Sonora champs (since they graduated everyone), but I personally would not rule out Troy who have a couple of impressive wins under their belt and a nice tourney ship from lower level Damian bracket.
: : :
: : : Sunset: Two horse race here, will Newport Harbor finally break Edison's string of league wins? Los Al is down (even Eyman is not enough to save them), Marina is much improved but not enough firepower, so the question is can Newport make enough 3's to offset the blocking ability of Phillips inside?
: : :
: : : South Coast: IMHO this will be the most highly contested league in all of orange county - Tesoro, Trabuco, San Clemente and Aliso Niguel have solid teams and will take turns beating one another. Although most are picking Trabuco my money is on Tesoro if they find a way to perfect their inside outside game.

: : : Empire: Tustin and Cypress have been leading the pack in this league in recent years. It appears that will be the case again this year. Tustin usually does a better job finding talent but have been down the last couple of years so have to rely on coaching. Cypress has the horses this year and appear to be playing together more than past years. I will give Cypress the edge.

: : : Pacific Coast: Northwood has the coaching and returning players to take this one. They have impressive wins at two December tournaments including beating JSerra. Beckman is a dark horse.
: : :
: : : Golden West: Ocean view does not play the strongest pre-season schedule but still the class of the Golden West returning a couple of players that were varsity as sophomores.
: : : Garden Grove: Garden Grove has an impressive record this year, relies on speed and quickness with just one single player over 6 feet. Santiago could provide a speed bump on their patch to the ship.
: : : North Hills: Villa Park still remains the best recruiting public school in Orange County. Gained quality players from Brea and El Toro to stay on top. Poaching players from your own conference may be frown upon but still legal. Will go undefeated in league.
: : : Crestview: Canyon is one of the best programs in OC. Lots of talent and even better coaching. Esperanza is a one horse team but may sneak an upset win due to its players recognizing their role. They went to state with a similar system last year, granted KZ was special.
: : Canyon or capo valley for best public league school!
: : Where is Crean Lutheran this year? Empire takes them on next two years (total bs). Poor Bossenmeyer, Yosh, Friedman, & Mitchell. So unfair to have to compete with different set of rules for one school.
: Villa Park- "best recruiting pubic school in OC.." "..poaching players is frowned upon but still legal.." WHAT? it is absolutely NOT legal. If CIF had any fight left in them they'd actually enforce their own anti-recruiting rules..
: Ocean View- "not the strongest pre-season schedule.." they played the #3 team from Colorado and two top 20 teams from Arizona. Also played Diamond Ranch whose only losses were to JSerra (by 2), Canyon & Bonita. Last pre-league tune-up was @ Cypress. There are some solid teams on the schedule..
: Crean is still in the Academy League for one more year. Won't get tested except maybe at St. Margaret's. Eventually Crean will be a Trinity League team..
: Garden Grove won't have too much trouble with Santiago, but won't blow them out, then they'll leave for the Golden West League with another banner.
: Orange Coast League- Laguna Beach.. one more year with a 10-0 record before they finally have to get tested in league next year. They're good enough to compete in the Sunset League THIS year. Too bad they'll use all that senior talent on 40-point blowouts for the next 5 weeks, leading to a playoff let-down in round 1 or 2.
: Sunset- I'd still take Edison..
: Cypress just took care of your tough schedule Ocean View by 11, and the Empire is not even one of the strongest leagues.
Never said OV had a tough schedule- said they had played some good teams INCLUDING Cypress. As for the Empire League, aside from Kennedy, they hold their own. Are they 'one of the toughest'? I'd rate the Empire somewhere around middle of the pack this year.
Would've been interesting last night if the kid from OV didn't seriously injure himself after slipping on a dunk attempt. 30 minute break for the paramedics to take him out in an ambulance had a little effect on the game, I'm sure. Not taking anything from Cypress, but just be real about it.
