: : : : : : : : : : : Orange Lutheran is struggling and I suspect their coach is in the hot seat. What happens if their coach gets fired, is Compton magic out of a gym. The principal already
: : : : : : : : : : : Is sweating bullets about their affiliation with CM. Looks like CM's puppets like meal nieves will back to ups
: : : : : : : : : : It is not looking good for them, I suspect 1 win or less in the trinity league
: : : : : My sources have talked to him in general about type of program he is looking to lead so nothing specific here about OLU. They have said he has a number of former assistant coaches and others interested in joining him in the future, but that he would consider any alumni currently coaching on the staff. Bottom line is he built a great program at Foothill, won multiple league and CIF Titles, and was well respected with players, families, and others involved in the game. He coached at Santa Margarita before Foothill and now is at Mater Dei. Seems like solid preparation to lead a program in the Trinity League.

: : : : : : : : : Fire Nordstrom and bring in a new staff that knows what they are doing. They have talent, but always under achieve. Will win at most 2 games in the trinity
: : : : : : : : Both wins against Servite?!
: : : : : : : The former Foothill Coach is an assistant at Mater Dei this year & reportedly looking to head a program again as soon as next year. Would be a big time upgrade to the current situation.
: : : : : : Does the former Foothill coach have a support staff that would come or keep the current OLU support staff?
: : : : The former foothill coach does not like his players playing AAU during the off season. For better or worse he keeps a tight grip on his players!
: : : He is a solid coach and has a disciplined system that has worked very well. Look at the current Foothill HS situation without him. What a complete trainwreck with more talent than they had last year. He is a pretty good talent evaluator. The buffoons who replaced him at Foothill are getting the beat down of a lifetime and are not good talent evaluators nor do they put the best players on the floor. Shame on the FHS principal for letting him leave. Maybe OLUs gain here. I hope so
: : The guy can coach, but has a very strict system. He would need to lighten up a little bit with the talent their. If he does that, I think he can make them a competitive trinity league team
: My son played for Coach Van Cleave at Foothill. I have no idea where his coaching interests lie in the future, but my opinion is any program could benefit from his leadership. I take exception to two things in this thread. For one, anyone that wanted to play AAU did and coach could often be found at their games in the Spring and Summer. What he and his staff did encourage and provide was development opportunities on campus in their gym, with their staff. His system was disciplined, but his best players always had the opportunity to shine. Their was a heavy emphasis on playing defense and sharing the ball. It would seem that some of the more talented teams that are struggling could use more of these concepts. We were very successful at Foothill during his tenure and often beat teams with a lot more talent.
Yes agree with you. The guy can coach. How did Foothill let him get away? The current guys coaching at Foothill now are very inexperienced and are not even playing the best talent. Very poor talent evaluation...almost scary how bad the coaching is as well as poor player selection. They lose to teams they should easily beat with kids who can play sitting on the bench?
Very hard to understand what has happened there at Foothill.
