: : Mater Dei was up 17 after 1st qtr. today, then got outscored by 26 points over the next
: : three qtrs. and lost to Wesleyan Christian 82-73. Back to back losses and heading to Les Schwaab in Oregon next. Funny how the losses don't get called in.

: They actually blew a 19 point lead as Wesleyan made a deuce with the ball in the air when the red light come on to make it 29-12. The Monarchs were on fire from three point land with Freedman hitting 6 in a row and at the half they were 9-11 from beyond the arc. I know that no team can keep up that as the law of averages evens it out but with no shot clock I would think with a big lead that it is time to make the clock work in your favor and pass the ball around and not take anything but a sure layup or make the other team foul and get to the line. When Wesleyan did get the lead for the first time i the fourth quarter, they immediately went to that style and it worked perfect as they made layup and then with a four point lead they either made a layup or free throws and had a 82-70 lead before Donahue hit a three pointer at the buzzer to make the final score, I would think the Monarhchs would have won the game if Harrison Butler had been able to play as he is the most athletic player on the team soit was 3 seniors and two freshmen starting and Reagan Lundeen had the best day of his career but Michael Wang ,who had made 12-15 from the field on wed made only 3-9 twlf while the opponents made just 2 in each half ,Freedman had five assists but made 4 turnovers, most of them at crunch time in the 4th quarter. He made his first 6 three pointers all in the first half and then on his two second half attempts he got fouled on one and made the 3 free throws and the other one rimmed in and out. He was 5-5 from the free throw line and if he would have made the front end of a one and one on Wed the Monarchs would not have been playing in 5th place semi-final but this team now set a Monarch record in Gary McKnights 36 year career by blowing double digit leads in consecutive games, 17 on Wed and 19 this afternoon and they rank 2nd and 3rd all time with the record being made in the the 2011 city of Palms against a team from Texas where they blew a halftime lead of 22 points and lost in overtime and Wed night they blew a 17 point lead and lost in Double overtime so todays game is the largest lead in a game they lost in overtime, The loss was also the 100th loss for coach McKnight against 1088 wins. The team will not be playing tomorrow so will have 3 days off before opening in the NIKE Les Schwab tourney up in Oregon on Tuesday. If Bol Bol would not have left the team, I doubt if McKnight would have lost his 100th game until next season. The best thing they can take out of this tourney is getting their freshmen experience against great teams and they should improve a lot in the competition they face in the next month.

Seriously Jack. I guess they should have called Dean Smith for a 4 corners delay game clinic? Fair point on Butler. MD doesn't need anyone making excuses for them to justify losses to anonymous social media posts. At least you have the guts to post their name. Anyone who cares knows Bol is gone, but from my outside perspective, was he ever really there. Watching this team on FloHoops this week and they have huge upside as the frosh and soph get experience while Wang, Butler, and Lundeen grow into their new roles. Time will tell and there are a ton of naysayers right now and most of them come from programs that would have been blown out by the 3 teams MD played this week.
