: : Mater Dei squeaked out a 62-61 over Mountain Brook, Alabama in the first eound of "The City of Palms" classic in Ft. Myers, fl. tonight. Spencer Freedman made the first of a one and one free throw situation to give the Monarchs a 62-61 lead with 1:33 to play and since there is no shot clock in Florida, Mountain Brook decided to play for a last shot win. They held the ball for all but 5 seconds and then called time out. Their star ,Trendon Watford who had scored over half of his teams points got the last shot from the left baseline but it hit the rim and bounced away and the Monarchs had dodged a bullet. They trailed at the end of each quartee but the last one. Harrison Butler's 3 consecutive 3 pointers in the third quarter prevented the Monarchs from getting blown out as they still trailed by 6 points, 49-43 at the end of the third quarter.
: Playing without a shot clock can be a real challenge for teams tgat are use to playing with one. MATER Dei needs to quickly adapt, cse games become losses, if one team sits on the ball and takes the other out of their game
That is very true, BBfan ,as a matter of fact ,if they had lost, it could be blamed on the way they played in the last minute of the first half when they had a three point lead but jacked up about three shots and Mountain Brook made 2 three pointers in that last minute to go from 23-20 deficit to a 26-23 halftime lead.
