: : Did I read this correctly? Bosco a trinity league team playing against a bunch of lower level schools in the Buena Park tournament?

: : this is clearly a reaction to CIF requiring a winning record to make it to playoffs. They were never challenged and never really tested themselves.

: : Question is would it be better to play a higher quality tournament and go 2 and 2 against competition you will see in CIF or pick an easy tournament and go 4-0?

: Yes and yes.. Sure you get better getting tested, but yes, starting 4-0 is a good thing, especially considering they may only win 2-3 games in the Trinity League. So as far as being sharp for the playoffs, they'll get toughened up in league. Will a game in November have an effect in February? Doubtful. Teams change so much from week-to-week in terms of improvement, slumps, injuries, attitude, parents, etc. So let's say you get beat up in November playing, say LB Poly. What is the benefit? I'd say a bigger concern would be what non-league singles are they playing and what post-Christmas tourney are they in? That's far more important in getting ready as it's the week before league starts.

Know a girls program in a very tough league who has had to adjust their schedule down to make sure they make the playoffs. In the past they scheduled beastly nonleague schedules; now they play a much softer preleague to get their wins; then they can finish 500 in league to get their 14 wins...later in the season the nonleagues can go up/down...
