: Eric Sondheimer reports that the the southern section open division finals will be at the Pryamid. Is the Honda Center no longer be used or will they put the lower divisions there? Seems like adding the 3 girls finals there last year really hurt the early sessions.
There are so many quality venues in the southern section that could be used. Honda Center is too big- it seats like 16K, so even if you had 8K show up, the place is 1/2 full/empty.
Why not use the Galen Center for the Open and Div 1 finals for boys and girls? Beautiful arena, small capacity, middle of downtown LA so it seems more big-time. Then you can use smaller venues for the others- which will draw smaller crowds anyway. I know CIF likes to have everything at one place so that it seems like all of the CIF-SS has come together as a finale, but they haven't been doing that anyway.
So you'd have Open and Div 1 boys/ girls finals at Galen (4 games, 12,000 seats- place will be packed) These games are played on Saturday afternoon/evening.
Then D2AA, 2A, 3AA, 3A boys/girls at Pyramid (8 games, 6,000 seats- place will be packed) These games are on Friday (3 games) and Saturday (5 games)
Then 4AA, 4A, 5AAA, 5AA, 5A boys/girls could be at UCI or Azusa Pacific or Anaheim Convention Center, or somewhere like that. Bren holds like 5,000, APU about 5,000, ACC about 7,000.. You won't pack them out, but at least it's not in just a HS gym like Godinez the last few years (which, btw, by virtue of there being NO convenient parking, should eliminate it as a site). These games are on Friday (4 games) and Saturday (6 games).
