: : : The way I see it, the schools that regularly recruit and do it well will end up in the Open or 1AA division and play against the best talent anyway. The ones that don't will remain at the lower levels and play against similar teams. So divisional rankings even at the small OC level makes sense. Let me give it a try. This is simply based on the last two years and based on CIFSS scoring - as imperfect as it may be at the moment, it is better than how it was previously IMHO.

: : : : Open / D-1
: : : : 1) Mater Dei -43
: : : : 2) Santa Marg - 36
: : : : 3) Esperanza - 29
: : : : 4) O Lu - 28
: : : : 5) Edison - 28
: : : : 6) Los Al - 27
: : : : 7) J serra - 26
: : : : 8) Villa Park - 24

: : : : 1)Sonora - 23
: : : : 2)Corona del Mar - 22.98
: : : : 3)Capistrano Valley - 22.94
: : : : 4)El Toro - 22.93
: : : : 5)Buena Park - 21.8
: : : : 6)San Clemente - 21.6
: : : : 7)Servite - 21.5
: : : : 8)HB - 21.1
: : : : 9)Northwood - 20.9
: : : : 10) Aliso Niguel -20.8
: : : : 11) Canyon - 20.7

: : : : 1) Cypress - 19.8
: : : : 2) Trabuco Hills - 19.3
: : : : 3) Foothill - 19
: : : : 4) Newport harbor - 18.8
: : : : 5) Yorba Linda - 18.7
: : : : 6) Tesoro - 18.6

: : : The problem with only looking back at past performance is you miss out on the graduation factor. For example Sonora, Esperanza, Buena Park lost significant pieces to graduation and will not be as good as they were the last couple of years.

: : I agree 100%. It would be great if beside the weightings for (33%) second to last, and (66%) for last year, there was some weighting attributed to the current year - maybe from results of a pre-season tournament or Fall league. This would take into account the strength of the current team. I agree that teams like Esperanza (losing KZ and other seniors) would likely not have the season they had last year. I could also see Edison and Los Al being ranked lower than J Serra and Villa Park (Who both got impact transfers!) this year. Crean Lutheran is also a team that is in a much lower Division then their current team deserves.
: : In a nutshell, transfers make a big difference and somehow this should be reflected in the rankings and Division placements. Maybe a 20%, 30% and 50% for the last two years plus the largest weighting for the current team make up? What do y'all think?

: I disagree 100%. Cry babies cry. Team wins CIF or state and now freaking complains about placement? One can only base information on past performances not predictions. For all of the private schools shut up because you can and do recruit. For the public schools your high school coaches lead feeder programs to your high schools and when you win you complain the following year you can not compete with the big boys. I love it when back door politics come back and bite you in the ass.

: Speaking of feeder programs. You can try to develop and teach the game but when your teams are always playing in the BRONZE division you are selling the parents a bill of goods. Obviously you can not develop if you continue each and every year to play in Bronze level tournaments. Check out Exposure Basketball for documentation. Also, club teams need good coaches, not dads or wanna be coaches. My rec team beats well known club teams.

: Freaking babies you are. Win and complain. Lose and complain. Develop your local kids and you will be successful or find a guy that can develop and move forward.

Personally I'm not complaining about a thing just pointing out a flaw in the ranking process that doesn't factor in the loss of players due to graduation. Fall league can't be considered as many many schools don't even play fall league and the teams that do play rarely seem to have their full squads.

As far as super sensitive, name caller... Last time I checked CIF sets the divisions not the coaches. So the teams in the BRONZE division don't have a choice to play there come playoff time. Those teams also don't get to choose the league they play in so there's another 8-10 games they have no choice in playing.

Having said that, don't be surprised if you see some very good teams this year schedule down to make sure they get to .500 because of the playoff rules. Now we are only talking about the 10-15 games that are non-league but I guarantee that will happen especially those teams that are in tough leagues, they need the wins.
