: : How do you coach at a school where basketball is not a sport that is popular in the community? Where players who if coached hard quit. Who if pushed quit. Who if held accountable for missing practices quit. Who if required to show up to weights quit. People who are engrained into a youth program mentality even in middle school so when they get to high school cannot handle the requirements needed to be competitive. Where parents say, "we just want him to be happy".

: :::: Let em all quit. Tough to compete, much less win, with players of that mentality. It will be rough in the early going, but you will eventually build a tough program with kids that embody your principles. It will take time. Do not sacrifice your principles or you will not enjoy it.

I think you also need to continue to find ways to make it fun. Kids these days are not just going to work without fun and rewards. Team outings and other activities to build comradery are very important.
