: : : : : My son been with la elite 3 years no division 1 schools have offered he's a all cif player of the year what should I do all his friends that play for Compton magic all got offers are these coaches no good or they don't know coaches like that
: : : : : It's not that they are no good but they aren't connected in any way. Nice guys but not the ones I'd trust my son's future to. Sorry.
: : : If your kid is good enough he'll get the attention no matter where or who he's playing for. Politics matter, but the game matters most. People don't give scholarships because they don't know or like coaches. It's cause they can't play.
: : You can't just depend on club coaches to contact college coaches.
: : Have your soon make a list of 10 - 20 schools that he feels are realistic options (for example, if he hasn't been contacted by any Pac 12 schools by now, it's probably not happening) and do some research on their websites, get contact info, and email a letter of introduction with some film links.
: : Then he should follow up with a phone call - I know that's tough for teens these days - to the ones he really likes and see what their feelings about him are.
: : Good luck!
: : Its tough because all you need is one offer. All I can say is keep fighting the good fight and hope someone will notice your son. You might have to market your son with film, also show the coaches all the positives he can bring to the program besides basketball. That's how I did it in football and I earned a scholarship. Its a struggle but a good struggle. College coaches tend to miss a lot unless you get them to pay attention. There's nothing wrong with the JC route!
Most of these offers arent even real...wait till the kid has to make his decision and those offers will have mysteriously vanished
