: : : : Who is on the rise and who are the sleepers in this upcoming 2017-2018 boys high school season?
: : : My list
: : : Culver city and st Bernard.. reggies magic and tough team going to give top teams a fit in bernards
: : dont sleep on Heritage. They're going places next year. The Starr's probably wish they stayed lol
: Heritage Chr...? What? Why would the Starr's wish that they stayed? Because of what happened at Village Chr? Why leave Village to go to Village 2.0?
: The Starrs should be happy about Santa Clarita Chr. I have not seen Heritage Chr this year. But SCC is a sleeper team. I was talking to a good coach that said that the younger Starr is very solid and only a sophomore. They also have a big kid that's a sophomore. They'll get by without a pg because of how they play and their wings are good enough.
: It's tough for me to call St. Bernards a sleeper because everyone pretty much knows that they have a good program, good coach and kids that play hard. We're not talking about a national team. But they should be a tough game for any team in SoCal by December.
: I want to put Harvard Westlake as my third sleeper. I really, really do. I think that they'll improve by subtraction. But I can't. When I saw them during the summer they were missing Juzang and Mason Hooks so it wasn't their full roster. But it was enough to make me think that they're another year away. Reggie Morris works magic and he'll need it with that Culver City roster.
: So my other sleeper is Cantwell. Where's Cantwell? It's in Montebello. Where's Montebello? If you're not extremely fluent in Spanish then it doesn't matter. The basketball team went .500 last year. If they play a similar schedule, it feels like they can be on the positive side of .700. That's a big jump and a team that would be tough for most schools to play.
: Did I go off of the grid with Cantwell? Lol.
: Brentwood is always a sleeper, Moose does a excellent job with that ball club. Santa Clarita Christian should be really good by January. Hard nosed kids that play the right way. Harvard Westlake is another program that gets their kids to play hard nosed defense but not sure how far they can advance. My major sleeper is St. Bernard, didn't make playoffs last season and returned the core of their players and will be scary by League. Knock down shooters, good point guards combined with physical play and the 6'9 kid will be very good this season. Well coached and the run a great system.
