: : I know, I know, it is only summer league, Lavar is a jerk, Zo's shot is awkward, yada yada yada, but Zo is starting to get a feel for this NBA stuff. Followed up a triple double with a very solid game. Shot it better, passing was off the chain good, rebounded well and had some steals. Too many turnovers, some bail outs and got caught in the air with nowhere to go etc, but significant improvement and moving in the right direction. Let the hates start popping off!
: When Lavar and the side show circus isn't around and Zo can just simply play basketball, he's pretty darn good! But we know Lavar craves the spot light too much so unfortunately he will be around more then he should be.
Zo has intangibles. But a lot of things that can be taught and honed, aren't. That's a major plus and a major minus all at the same time. Last night all of the things aligned for his major positives to align... in Summer league. So when people emphatically responded to last night's game as if he's proving doubters wrong, it says to me that the person doing so doesn't know basketball on a level that some do. Yes I'm saying me as well. Sorry.
We know that he can full court pass with the best of them. But his drive and dish passes against future G-League backups wouldn't have worked in the NBA. The team used 1-2 full court screens to give him a running start, rather than see if he can create off of his man and/or 1/2 court set. The Lakers will say that Zo played faster. Well that's not going to work when you set a screen for Lowry and than have Derozan breathing down your neck.
Part of me believes that the NBA didn't want the Lonzo vs Ball matchup in Summer League. Save it for the regular season and now all of a sudden, Lakers vs Kings is a must see game in November, December during the NFL season. But... part of me also believes that Lonzo was ducking Fox. This is another possible caution sign.
Zo will learn and he will improve. But let's not go over board with the "He's ready" or "He's going to break records" chatter yet.
