: : : : : : : : : : : : : Why fire the coach of the year for their league? He seems like a good guy and coach. What's the story?
: : : : : : : : : : : : He's a great guy and fantastic coach. Having a few personal issues - nothing to do with Bball - and the Administration over there is clueless, they panicked and let him go. Gutless pricks.
: : : : : : : : : : : What's the reasoning for the firing?
: : : : : : : : : : Coach Westphal has to want the Calabasas job. Its 1000 times better than Village with less headache & scrutiny. Any chance that he applies? Parents at Calabasas are upset over the firing but some have mentioned Mike Westphal as a replacement.
: : : : : : : : : Parents are furious about this firing. The players love Coach Colin (my son's a freshman). He was accused of something that most of us find ridiculous (most of the kids come out of Colin's Gametymers middle school program so we've known him for years before high school). The principal - who knows nothing about basketball and doesn't seem to care about the boys involved - fired him. Past allegations against coaches, teachers etc have been handled very differently at Calabasas. The principal supported those people. If you think firing Colin had nothing to do with race - I'm a white dude, but I can see the truth - you're very mistaken.
: : : : : : : : Heard he slept with a parent..that's the rumor.
: : : : : : : That's not a reason to get fired. If coaches were fired for piping moms then coach openings would be in constant rotation.
: : : : : : Maybe you're right, although I've been around HS bball for some time and haven't heard of any coaches doing that, but also have to realize Calabasas principal is a nut job.
: : : : : I wouldn't be surprised if Burbank coach throws his name in there.
: : : : : Interviewed last Summer for the position, previously a JV coach there under Palarz and was a finalist for the position.
: : : : Did he sleep with the principal's wife tho? I'd have to fire the guy if he bumped bodies with my ol' lady. Lol.
: : : : he did and no that's not a good reason to fire him. Happening at a lot of schools now. They are adults so it's nobody's business. Guy is an average coach so that's more of an issue but ok.
: : Wait... Did he sleep with the Principal's wife?
: : If so, are you really saying that he shouldn't get fired? Look, somehow there's cookie crumbs on my wife's yoga mat. That gives you a pretty good idea of her workout regimen. She's trying. But "keep trying" is what you tell the junior playing jv. I want results. But if a person working for me decided to ride the waves that's my wife's rolls, I'm firing you. Isn't that understood from the start?
: : Imagine coming home and you catch your wife's ankles on your employees shoulders. Then the next morning he greets you at work with "Hey good morning boss. Coffee?" No I don't want coffee. I also don't want you thrusting on my wife you jerk. If you don't fire him then he's the boss. I don't care what you're able to tell him to do at work. From that point on he's Bane from Batman with his open hand on your shoulder asking you "Do you feel in charge?"
: : That coach probably wants to leave the school after that. You have to be a special level savage to sleep with the Principal's wife and then at 3pm hold practice. Wait... Isn't the Principal a woman?
: : This feels like it's either a really good story or something completely boring. In a few days we're going to find out that the coach was fired for parking in a handicap stall.
: Depending on what the allegations were, it may not matter.
: Sleeping with a school parent by itself is not enough to lose a job over. Maybe not the best idea, but certainly not illegal or enough to be fired over.
: However, if there are allegations of illegal activity (and maybe someone knows), then he was going be fired/not renewed. School can't take the chance. No different from any other job. Doesn't matter if it is true or not, if it is serious enough, the allegation is enough for the school to take the "safe" route and remove him.
: And this isn't something we should be joking around about. Whether you think he is a good coach or not - and I have no idea - based on what is being said, this goes beyond basketball and now we are talking about his future employment opportunities both in and out of basketball.
The reasons for his firing should have been said by the school. He was at a SCHOOL. So be fair to everyone involved and say why he was fired.
