: : Same official called illegal screen on BM in 4th quarter. Decent call. Next one against MD. Poor screening technique. Elbows up, leaning into opponent. Not hard contact, but it looked like football-style block. Live with that one. The 3rd one (second against MD) was a bad call. Fine technique. Plenty of time and distance. Not a foul. Official got sucked in somehow.
: : I had advantage of analyzing on video. He didn't. Emotions got best of him?
: I didn't see the second one against MD, but any time the arms are up with the elbows out, they will call that. Officials want the elbows in with the hands down covering groin area. That is not the way I learned to set screens 25 years ago, but that is how we are required to set them these days.
Yeah, he had his elbows up and out, parallel to the deck, football-style. And he wasn't vertical. He was leaning into the defender a bit, anticipating the contact. Not vicious contact at all. Soft contact. Bad technique. Looked bad. Second against MD looked like text-book technique. Gave the defender at least one step to avoid contact. Not too late. Enough time and distance. Hard one for the official to justify.
