: : : : Here are my 2 cents on why Bishop Montgomery "may" be one of the top coaching staffs in socal hoops.Doug Mitchell has been a no nonsense coach at his current post.Good knowledgeable basketball minded parents are well aware of Doug's coaching ways. They clearly understand that this brand of teaching is much needed.Prime reason is AAU ball and social media.AAU ball and social media will lead you to believe that you are league bound. Example of parents who get it are Lamond Murray "NBA" and Oregon St assistant coach Thompson. Second reason why this staff "may" be one of the top in socal is assistant coach Chris Madiggan. Very few may know of him. Here is what i been told and what I personally know. He's gift to break down film and put on a strategic defense for the opposing team is of next level stuff. Was told he clearly does not belong at the high school level. So if your fortunate enough to watch the Final of Bishop Montgomery vs Mater Dei, keep an eye on the no NONSENSE and the "No Gap" available defense!

: : : :More coaches should follow his lead ! Smart parents all know their kids need discipline.

: : Let's not get carried away here. Mitchell is a very good coach, but who wouldn't be if you had Singleton,Thompson,Schakel? C'mon..Three D-1 guys makes everybody better. Name one team in SoCal with 3 D-1 guys that grossly underachieved? Had a losing record or just did not reach potential.Nobody! Anyone with that talent is gonna have a good team.

: OK, here is a team that underachieved with possibly 5 D1 players in their program last year: Winward--Shareef, Payton, Jules, Jaylen, Cyrus Johnson, etc. It takes a great coach and coach staff to have these kids believe in something bigger than them. Apparently you didn't watch the game against Sierra Canyon, to game plan against 8 D1 players and possibly one future lottery pick, a team who was put together with a parent that has big pockets since they were 8th graders, is extremely hard. A task done by a great coach and a great PROGRAM. Sierra Canyons D1 players: Riley (UCLA), Martin (ASU), Adam S. (SDSU), Terence (Cornell), Bagely III( NBA porospect), Fienburg (Ivy League), Marcus B. It takes a great program to win and continue to win and continue to produce at this level without any big name transfers. A program built on discipline and patience. They have frosh that should be starting Var at different HS playing on Frosh teams, playing JV. CULTURE. Win or Lose. They won't go away. They will be back next year, and the year after, and the year after that.

I hear over and over and over that he runs a College style program. That's why so many college's love his players. They are a step ahead of most when it comes to commitment and the way the College game is played. God knows those kids get yelled at a lot but he pushes them toward greatness. As far as the transfers go, 2 years ago some 7'2" Chinese kid had some interest in playing there and they just weren't sure of his age/grades so they said no thank you. Not too many programs out there these days with as much integrity for the game as BM.
