: : : 2017 Southern California Senior Showcase

: : : The 8th annual Southern California Senior Showcase will be held Sunday March 26, 2017 at Cerritos College in Norwalk from 12 noon to 7:00 pm. It will be open to individual players and teams who are unsigned seniors in the class of 2017.

: : : This exposure event is designed to provide all players an opportunity to demonstrate their talents/skills in highly competitive games for the college coaches, scouts, and media expected to attend. A report on the event will be done by the Hoop Review scouting service that will be sent to college coaches and various internet sites.

: : : Cost is $100 for individuals and $250.00 for teams. Every team/individual will play two games. For more information/flyer call the tournament director, Gerry Freitas at 408-998-1327 or contact via email:

: : Good event Gerry! Glad you provide this opportunity for those that have not been signed yet still dream of playing at the next level.

: : However, as basketball has reached an exploitation level never seen before and I am hopeful you would not mind providing data that supports your altruistic efforts.

: : For instance. What is the average revenue from an event such as this? I fully understand you spend countless hours organizing this event and I would expect you to generate a moderate profit. How many participants have you averaged over the last 8 years?
: : But more importantly, how many unsigned seniors have secured a scholarship as a direct result of attending this event? An average number per year would be great. I imagine if you told someone that there is a likelihood of securing a scholarship from attending an event costing only $100 that this would be a prudent investment. On the other hand if there are 200 attendees yet only 2 or 4 secure a scholarship (partial or otherwise) then we are talking about a 1 or 2%.
: : You are a well respected name in the recruiting arena so I am hopeful you respond as this venture of creating "showcase" events are multiplying rapidly in recent years yet there does not appear to be much oversight or information regarding their true benefit

: Alot of JC coaches attend these events and its a great way to see a bunch of kids at one place. Gerry does a great job of putting this event on and I wish there were more like them. It's really hard to secure a scholarship at these types of things...but, it does give kids an opportunity to continue playing and take classes toward their degrees. Even if Gerry makes a large profit of this, it's still the kids/parents choice to participate. Instead of bashing him and asking for his financial breakdown, why don't you rent a gym and setup an event like this for FREE.

Nobody is bashing Gerry. Glad he is getting the kids to play at the JC. Better than nothing. I'm sure he won't have a problem marketing the event as such. It was an honest question simply asking for an honest reply.
