SoCal Prep & Recruiting Report

Cal's Not Done Yet-Dante Smith Visit--(November 3, 1997)

Cal may still have a shot at signing a top quality high school senior yet, even with the defections of Tony Bland and Ray Young. It's been reported that point guard Dante Smith will make an official visit to Cal within the next two weeks. Smith, a 6-2 prospect from Anacostia High School in Washington D.C., is rated as a "solid sleeper" according to Dave Benezra of Recruiting USA. He would be expected to be an immediate impact for the Bears' next season, who graduate senior Sean Marks and Geno Carlisle. Word is though that even if Smith commits that he will not sign during the fall signing period, which begins Nov. 12, but will instead wait until the spring to sign a National Letter of Intent.
