Tourney Update: Reebok-Compton
Tip-Off Classic--(November 30, 1997)

We reported on this tournament in our Crossroads High School Preview, and have had this up on our Tournament Page for quite a while now, but in case you forgot, the Reebok-Compton Tip Off Classic starts tomorrow night (Monday, December 1) at Compton College.

There have been a couple of changes to the schedule since we first reported it, and the correct times are now listed below. Even if these are slightly off, it can't hurt to get there early. Be prepared to pay a few bucks at the door to get in; parking is free and plentiful near the gym entrance.

Monday December 1:

Jordan High vs. Inglewood at 5:45 p.m.
Artesia vs.
Crossroads at 7:45 p.m.

Tuesday Dec. 2:

Long Beach Wilson High vs. Lynwood High at 4:30 p.m.
Dominguez vs. Perris at 6:30 p.m.
Compton High vs. Bishop Montgomery at 8:30p.m.

This is going to be some outstanding basketball. Remember, the games start just about during the peak of rush hour, so if you're traveling any great distances, plan ahead and leave early.

The games will be, as we said, at Compton College, which is located at 1111 E. Artesia Boulevard, Compton, CA 90221 (just thought we'd throw in the zip code for you anyway. Go ahead and write to them if you must). If you need further information from Compton College you can call (310) 637-2660. Or check their website

To get to Compton College if you are coming from the North (i.e., downtown, the Valley, Pasadena, anywhere north of Compton: If you are coming from the Westside or the Valley, take either the 405 or the 110 Harbor Freeway south to the 91. Take the 91 east and take the Alameda Street offramp, and go north about a block to Artesia Blvd, and turn right. The college will be on your left (north). The gym entrance is off of Artesia just before Delta Ave. You'll be making a left turn from Artesia which ever exit you take from the 91.

If you are coming from the northeast (Pasadena) take the 710 Long Beach Freeway south to the 91 west, and get off on Santa Fe/Alameda (it's the second exit after the interchange). If you're coming from the south, just reverse the freeway directions. However you do it, you want to get to the 91 and exit at Alameda or Santa Fe.
