MLK Holidy Challenge at Pauley
Set for Jan 19, 1998--(November 11, 1997)

The Fourth Annual Nike Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Challenge is set for Jan. 19 at Pauley Pavilion, and should be the strongest group of teams ever fielded for this event. This year's tournament will feature at least eight of the best teams in SoCal, which will also be featured in the Best in the West Tournament which will take place three weeks beforehand, December 26-30. This year's only real "dark horse" candidates are perennial power Mater Dei which appears to be in a rebuilding mode, and Glendora.

At the MLK Challenge, the games will begin at 9:30 am with Redondo (Andrew Zahn, Marcus Moore, Tyler Hoffman, Levi Stauffer) vs. South Torrance.

Next up is Mater Dei v. Canyon of Anaheim (Drew Gaulden) at 11:00 am.

At 12:30 pm Artesia (Jason Kapono, Jamaal O'Quinn, James Murdock, Willie Alford, Jonathon Stokes, Aaron Hamilton) will matchup against Long Beach Jordan (Craig Calloway, Darren Peterson)

One of the top matchups will take place at 2:00 pm between Compton (David Hamilton, DeAundre Moore, Milton Riley, Tino Maddux, Reggie Howard) and SD Uni High (Luke Walton, David Abramowitz, Ron McMillan).

At 3:30 pm Long Beach Poly (Ricky Anderson, Mike McIntyre, Shelton Diggs, Chris Stevens, Wesley Stokes) will take on Fairfax (Joe Shipp, Greg Jefferson, Stanley Thorne, Jr., Flinder Boyd, Jason Morrissette, Ismael Torres, Tommie Johnson)

At 5:00 pm Crenshaw (Brandon Hawkins, E.J. Harris, Anthony Garrison) will take on Etiwanda (Gary Colbert).

At 7:30 pm Dominguez (Tayshaun Prince, Keith Kincade) will matchup against Westchester (Brandon Granville, David Bluthenthal, Albert Miller).

The last game of the evening will be Glendora vs. Burbank Bell-Jeff (Ruben Douglas).
