Michelle Greco Commits to ULCA--(November 6, 1997)

Michelle Greco (5'-9" Sr. G) from Crescenta Valley, who was the only guard recruited by the UCLA women's program has committed to attend UCLA. She was both the Daily News and the Los Angeles Times' Female Player of the Year last year. She turned down offers from USC,UC Santa Barbara and Colorado.

Greco averaged 20.5 ppg, 10.9 rebounds, and 3.4 steals last season, and was selected by Street & Smith as among the top 50 preseason female recruits. In a tournament last year at Porterville she scored 54 points in a single game.

Greco told the Daily News today that "I think UCLA has the most to offer me, especially when I graduate. That UCLA degree also means a lot outside of basketball." She will join former Alemany High center Carly Funicello, who was the Times' player of the year in 95-96, preceding Greco's honor.

Her parents are also very happy. Her father told the Daily News "From a selfish standpoint, I get to see more of her games this way." Her coach, Damian Scribner was also pleased, telling the DN "We have a lot of people in the community that are always going to want to follow her, so this is fantastic. She picked a great place where she fits in well and can contribute right away."
