LA City Section Valley Mid-Season
League Standings--(January 27, 1998)

Tomorrow is the first day of "League" competition for most LA City Section schools. These schools are divided into "Conferences" consisting of both 4A and 3A teams. The 4A teams are then placed in "leagues" so that they compete against other 4A schools, and 3A against 3A. During the first part of the "season", from roughly the last few weeks before the Winter Break (aka Christmas vacation) until the latter part of January, the teams compete in "Conference" play. From January 28, through the end of the regular season on Friday, February 13, the teams compete in "League" play. There are a few exceptions to this, as in the Southeastern and Northern Conferences, which do not have any "league" play, but just conference play.

So, on the eve of the beginning of "league" play, here are the City Section standings for the Valley area teams, as published by the LA Times today. We'll also feature the CIF Midseason standings published by the Times today in the next article.

So here they are, through Monday, January 26, 1998
