LA Times Athlete of the Week:
San Fernando's Mike Page--(January 21, 1998)

Yesterday's LA Times (Valley Section) ran their weekly "Athlete of the Week" for both boys and girls. This is a feature which is not just limited to basketball at this time of year (it has also featured wrestlers and soccer players). This week's LA Times Athlete of the Week is Mike Page of the San Fernando Tigers, who are currently ranked by the Times (again the Valley Edition) as the No. 3 Team in the area.

Mike Page (6'-5" Sr. F), has been three year starter, and this year is one of the most improved players in the area, and has become the Tigers' most reliable perimeter shooter. In the December Hart Tournament, Page hit seven three-points in San Fernando's two point loss to Simi Valley, currently ranked as the No. 2 team in the region (a drop for Simi following last week's surprise loss to Newbury Park. He is currently averaging 15.8 points per game, which ranks him 13th among City Section San Fernando Valley regional scorers. He's knocked down 269 points in 17 games.

Last week, Page continued his long-range scoring against Cleveland and Kent Dennis by hitting a three pointer at the buzzer to send the game to overtime. San Fernando eventually won the game, as Page hit for 26 points. Against Taft last Friday, January 16, 1998, Page scored 21 points, 12 in the fourth court, as San Fernando again won, 73-61.

Congratulations to Mike Page, the LA Times Valley Region Athlete of the Week.
