Wednesday Game Results From Ventura
County's Small Schools--(January 23, 1998)

In addition to the Marmonte League and Channel League games played on Wednesday, there were more than a couple of games played in Ventura County's smaller leagues featuring "smaller" schools. Here's an assortment of scores and highlights from some of those games.

TRI-VALLEY LEAGUE:

Fillmore 64, St. Bonaventure 57

Fillmore, which improved with the win to 11-6 overall and 1-1 in league, coasted to a 42-17 halftime lead, then had to hold off a late rally by St. Bonaventure, which dropped to 9-8 overall with the loss, and which is still winless in league play at 0-3. Jesus Jasso had 23 points, eight rebounds and two steals for Fillmore. Brandon Duplessie had 10 points, 10 rebounds and nine blocks for St. Bonaventure.

CONDOR LEAGUE

Laguna Blanca 59, Cate 45

Chris Tamas took advantage of his height advantage in the post, scoring 21 points and grabbing 15 rebounds in the Owls' Condor League win over Cate. "We dominated inside,'' Laguna Blanca coach Chas Prior said. "We scored 36 points in the post." The Rams, whose tallest player stands 6'-1", couldn't match up with the 6'-5 Tamas of Laguna Blanca or with Jon Keith who added 11 points as Laguna Blanca improved to 3-0 in league and 10-4 overall. Cate, 2-1 in league and 2-6 overall, was led by Ogo Nwanyanwu with 21 points.

Laguna Blanca's scoring was led by Tamas with 21 points, Keith with 11, Lewis with 11, Wilson 2, Cochran 10, and Niehaus with 4 points. For Cate Fudge had 9, Nwanyanwu 21--including a three pointer--, Dvorak 2, Mehta 5, including one three, Linsmayer 6, and Nagano 2.

In other NON-LEAGUE action:

Thacher 68, Ventura County Christian 39

Ryan Bierma scored 22 points and grabbed 21 rebounds for Ventura County Christian (4-9).
