LMU v. San Jose St.: So What Went Wrong?
Nothing. Well Almost Nothing.--(January 4, 1998)

LMU managed to beat San Jose State, which is a good thing if you're a SoCal fan.

This was a non-conference game between LMU of the West Coast Conference and San Jose of the WAC. LMU won, 76-68. Haywood Eaddy scored 19 points as Loyola Marymount held off a second-half rally by San Jose State. The Lions led 49-31 with 16:31 remaining in the game, but the Spartans (2-9) responded with a 25-3 run over the next 9:58, keyed by 13 points from reserve guard Brent Boe, to take a 56-52 lead. The Lions scored the next seven points and took a 59-56 lead on Tim Kennedy's driving layup with 4:53 remaining. Spartans guard Michael Quinney's 3-pointer cut the Lions' lead to four points with 1:50 to play, but Eaddy responded with a 3-pointer and hit four free throws down the stretch to help the Lions pull away. Boe led the Spartans with a career-high 17 points off the bench, all in the second half. Coach Stan Morrison, easily one of the, if not the losingest coach in college basketball today (and a former SoCal coach from USC) expected Boe to start at forward, but replaced him with Brad Kennett after the morning shootaround. Boe, who has been bothered by a foot problem all season, did not play at all in the first half. For the Lions, center Silvester Kainga had career highs in rebounds (11) and blocked shots (five). The Lions won despite shooting 35.9 percent from the field, but the Spartans shot just 32.8 percent.
