Southern Section Games From Saturday:
Scores & Highlights--(February 9, 1998)

Believe it or not, there were some other games besides those played at the Bren Events Center at UC Irvine during the Nike Extravaganza III. Most were in the Southern Section. Here's a sampling of scores and highlights from some of them. We don't pretend that this is complete, it's just some info.

Coastal Life League

Price 71, Glendale Academy 52

No stats were available for Glendale Academy, as they dropped to 6-3 in league. Price, which improved to 8-0 in league, was led by Othel Johnson with 31 points, while Andrew Howeard scored 14, Mychal Lynch also had 14 and 10 assists.

Condor League

Villanova Prep 60, Thacher 54

Thacher dropped to 6-2 in league while VP improved to 9-7 overall and 5-3 in league. For VP, the high scorer was Engh with 18 points and 11 rebounds. For Thacher, Holmes had 16.

Desert Mountain League

Desert Christian 64, Vasquez 60

Nick Gray of Vasquez scored 25 pints while K Hohnson grabbed 12 rebounds and had 5 points. Jay Panico scored 13, Vince Bragg 10 and Serna 5 and Matthews 2, as Vasques dropped to 3-15 overall and only 1-8 in league play. DC's Josh Riundfleisch scored 16 ponts as DC improved to 6-10 overall and 3-6 in league.

Heritage League

Ribet Academy 81, Grace Brethren 76

Ribet improved to 11-9 overall and 4-3 in league and was led by Sarkissian with 23 points and Wainwright with 14; Lee also scored 25. Grace Brethren dropped to 12-7 overall and 3-5 in league, and had four players score in double figures, but lost anyway: John Durso scored 11 and had 10 rebounds; Jackson Beauchamp scored 16, Robert Serra had 18, and Ryan Shaffer had 19.

Non-League

Montclair Prep 90, Oak Park 65

Jules Thompson of Montclair scored 24 points, while Kevin Bentley had 16, Rocky Steryo 16 and nine assists, Jed Hall 14 and 10 rebounds, Carlease Clark 8 points and 10 assists while Hull had 4, Prince 2, Lucas 1, and Anderson 5 for Montclair, which improved to 22-3. Montclair is a freelance school, and thus has no "league standing". For Oak Park, which dropped to 13-8 overall, John Murphy had 22, Scott Conove 14, Greg Jones 13, S. Jones 7, Johnson 3, Wedel 3, Schneider 2, and Carver 1.
