Southern Section Playoffs: One Quarterfinal
And Some Corrections--(February 26, 1998)

Well, the other Division III-A quarterfinals in Regions I, II and III were played Tuesday night. Perhaps because the Region IV game was between two teams from regions hit hard by El Nino, and the game was to be played in an area even harder hit (Lompoc out near the coast where the storms come rolling off the Pacific next to the Vandenburg Missile Base) the game wasn't played until Wednesday night. Here are the results and highlights from that game.

Division III-A

Region IV

Cabrillo 86, Santa Paula 77

Joey Riccio made 15 of 18 field-goal attempts and finished with a season-high 40 points, but the Santa Paula High boys' basketball team fell to Cabrillo, 86-77, in a Southern Section Division III-A quarterfinal playoff game Wednesday night at Lompoc High. David Herrera, who made five of seven three-point attempts, had 21 points for Santa Paula (21-6), the fourth-seeded team. Cabrillo is 14-12.

Corrections

St. Josephs Santa Maria

In our report of the Division IV-AA quarterfinal game between St. Joseph Santa Maria and Duarte, which was won by St. Joe's, we reported that "Charles Pauley" was the high scorer for St. Joseph. We were wrong. Pauley plays for Duarte. We actually were supplied with a roster from St. Joe's and sure enough, we got it wrong. It's been corrected. Sorry for the error.

Cathedral City v. Muir game site correction

And we've also been advised that we were wrong about reporting that the Division II-A Quarterfinal match between Cathedral City and Pasadena Muir was going to be at Palm Desert High School.

We've been advised by our friend "ACuTie4u21" that the game's actually going to be at the La Quinta High School gym on Friday, February 27th at 7:30 pm. This should be a great game, and if you happen to be in the area, you certainly don't want to miss it.
