Jelani McCoy Partially Reinstated--(December 2,1997)

This is pretty old news by now, but Jelani McCoy was reinstated "partially" by UCLA yesterday, and not a moment too soon, given the dismal performance against UNC in the Great Alaska Shootout. So now both McCoy and Kris Johnson, both of whom were suspended together, can practice. It has been reported that Johnson will be back with the team for the home opener on December 13, and there's no reason to doubt this. It is being reported that McCoy will rejoin the team for games with the Pac-10 opener on January 3 at Arizona, also a reasonable assumption.

UCLA's next game is this Saturday, at the Wooden Classic at the Pond where they'll face New Mexico, which is currently ranked 8th. The Bruins have slipped a bit in the polls, down to number 15, and if they lose on Saturday, expect them to drop further. By the way, the game is going to be televised on Fox Sports West. Word is that the game is a sellout, but try Ticketmaster for ticket information.

We'll do a full comparison and preview of the game in a day or too, but for now, there's just too much high school hoopla to be concerned about it.
