B.J. Ward Makes It A Double For UCSB--(Sept. 23, 1998)

The LA Times has reported that B.J. Ward (6'-1" Sr. G) from Santa Clara High in Oxnard verbally committed to UCSB on Tuesday. Ward averaged 19 points per game last season, and led Santa Clara, a small Division V school deep into the playoffs. Santa Clara lost last year only to ultimate State Champion Pacific Hills in the Southern Section playoffs, and then lost in the first round of the State Southern Division semifinals.

Ward is the second player from Santa Clara in the past week to commit to the Gauchos. The first was his teammate Nick Jones (6'-3" Sr. G), who committed on September 17. The Times also noted, ever helpful that they are, that the first day either can sign a national letter of intent is November 11.

Both of these guys are tremendous additions to the Gaucho arsenal. Both are lightning quick, with great handles and can shoot the lights out from three point range or drive and beat their man off the dribble.
