Rafael Berumen Will Visit
New Mexico This Weekend--(Sept. 22, 1998)

Rafael Berumen (6'-9" Sr. F/C) from Simi Valley will take an official visit this weekend to New Mexico, and if we were him, we'd give it some serious thought if and when they offer. Berumen has been looking at Cal as well as New Mexico and several others, but given the signing of Justin Davis, and the continued availability of Berumen's Rockfish teammate Dalron Johnson (6'-8" Sr. C/F) from Verbum Dei and his interest in Cal (as well as UNLV) Berumen would have a clear shot at significant playing time and the chance to be an immediate contributor at New Mexico.

Rafael looked good this weekend, but certainly not dominant in the three games we watched. He is still stiff and looks to have put on a few pounds which have slowed him down a bit, but in the game against Salpointe on Saturday he was pretty dominating against Salpointe's twin towers Jason Dickens (6'-8" Sr. F) and Jemel McClandon (6'-8" So. F/C), but he clearly is not at the top of his game right now.
