adidas/Double Pump Fall Shootout: JC Team
Conversion Chart. You Gotta Have One--(Sept. 18, 1998)

Almost overlooked in all the stuff about the High School Division of the Fall Discovery Shootout is the fact that there will also be a JC Division. And you really need a conversion chart to be able to tell who's who. The reason for this seeming need to disguise a team's real identity has its roots in some California Community College Athletic Association rule that says teams cannot play "out of season" under their own school names. So those teams playing will be wearing monikers like "Lakers," or "Bulls," or "Cavs" or "Blazers.

Here's your unofficial, handy dandy guide to the real identity of the teams on the schedule in the JC Division (they're the one's listed in ITALICS in the schedule.

First up is the Lakers, which is really Long Beach City College with Schea Cotton (6'-6" Fr. G/F). Others on the team include Kevin Blunt (6'-7" So. F/C), Derek Emery (6'-10" So. F/C), Rickie Sanders (5'-11" So. G), Richard Trevino (6'-4" So. F), Devon Rice (6'-4" Fr. F), James Brewer (6'-2" So. G), Marshall Collins (5'-10" Fr. G), Isamn Nichols (6'-1" So. G) and Darnell Williams (6'-8" So. F).

The Jazz is really Compton Community College, and it features Ronnell Mingo (6'-9" Fr. F/C), Andrew Ross (7'-0" So. C) Jerry Wilson (6'-5" So. G/F), Thomas Murrell (6'-0" So. G), Kenny Smith (65-10" So. G), Lavoris Jerry (6'-4" So. G), Anthony Reason (6'-5" Fr. F), Mike Carson (6'-5" Fr. F), Danny Walker (6'-1" So. G), Jason Pickett (6'-2" So. G), Steffon Bradford (6'-7" So. F), Brandon Price (6'-5" So. F) and James Jones (6'-5" So. F).

The Clippers are really the College of the Desert, featuring Nick Castro (6'-0" Fr. G), Damon Brown (6'-0" So. PG), Gene Parker (5'-9" So. PG), Jamal Tyrrell (5'-10" So. PG), Greg Hendricks (6'-2" So. G), Matt Shaw (6'-3" Fr. G), Kerry Hendrickson (6'-4" So. G/F), Josh Witt (6'-1" Fr. PG), Ken Moore (6'-4" Fr. G), Shane Lenoirs (6'-2" Fr. F), Jeff Thomas (6'-4" Fr. F), La Mont Williams (6'-4" Fr. F), Mike Daniels (6'6" So. F), Randy Roy (6'-5" So. F), Thorsten Heidelmeier (6'-9" Fr. C), and Victor Smith (6'-11" Fr. C)

Chaffey is the Cavs, and we've already put up their roster earlier yesterday.

The Bulls is Los Angeles City College, and you'll be able to see Deon "Popeye" Green (6'-3" Fr. G), and a bunch of other guys.

The Bucks is LA Valley College and they've got their share of former high school stars, including Simmagin Smith (6'-7" Fr. F), Reggie Price (6'-7" Fr. C), Jerrohn Jordan (6'-7" Fr. C) and may actually average the tallest team around. They don't have anyone over 6'-7, but the majority of the guys are 6'-6" or 6'-7".

The Spurs is College of the Sequoias, featuring Deandre Hullett (6'-8" Fr. F) and lots of other great players.

The Suns is Cuesta College, Featuring Demond Huff (6'-11" Fr. C), Ron Barrow (6'-7" Fr. F), and some other really good players with excellent size and speed.

Finally, the Magic will be a combo team, and right now it's got a few guys from Mt. Hood Community College, and we expect that it will fill up shortly.
