4 "D" Stars Labor Day Tourney 14-U Division:
ARC, 4 "D", SCA & Future Stars--(Sept. 3, 1998)

The 4 "D" Stars Labor Day Tournament gets underway tomorrow, and there will be qute a few teams coming to town, with the big names in the 14-U division being ARC, 4 "D", Southern California All-Stars and the San Diego Future Stars.

We talked with Reynaldo Henry-Ala and he gave us the rundown on who's coming, and it looks like Leuzinger High and Gardena High will be the places to be this weekend. Be sure to bring your own personal air-conditioner because even without this incredibly bad, humid weather outside, it's going to be doubly hot inside.

This tournament is loaded. Aside from the younger divisions and the girls brackets, about which we will candidly admit we know nothing, this tournament will feature great competion among the 14's, JV and Varsity divisions. In fact, this tournament will set up a potential re-match in the 14's of the AAU National Championship game played in Memphis in July.

In the 14-U division, you'll see the AAU Champion Southern California All-Stars, featuring Harrison Schaen (6'-7" 8th gr. F/C). SCA's first game will be at 2:50 p.m. on Saturday at Leuzinger High against the winners of the Anaheim v. Walnut game. Also in SCA's bracket will be the San Diego Future Stars 14's, who recently won the High Five America 14-U Championship. In the other bracket of the 14's will be the ARC Razorbacks coached by Pat Christian, the No. 2 team in the country who finished second this summer in the National AAU finals, losing only to SCA. The Razorbacks will play at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday morning and will meet the winners of the game between the Rancho Cucamonga Roughriders and the Cerritos Hoyas. Other teams in the 14's will be the 4 "D" team, which recently won the Vegas Classic (Mae Fisher's tournament), the NJB Stars, the Arizona Stars, a team called "Southcoast" and a Lakewood Y team.

The 14-U semifinals will be held on Sunday at 5:30 p.m. and 6:20 p.m. at Leuzinger High. Don't miss it.
