Recruiting News: Long Beach State
Signs Guard Ron Johnson--(Aug. 2, 1998)

We just got an e-mail fromSan Diego Helix High assistant basketball coach, Paul Smith who tells us that Helix' star guard, Ron Johnson (6'-0" Sr. PG), who graduated in June, has signed with Long Beach State for next season. Ron was selected first team all-San Diego by the San Diego Union Tribune Player of the Year in his junior season, and averaged 16.9 points per game this last season. At 6'-0" and 180 lbs, Johnson has decent size, and a very quick first step. He can shoot, drive and go to the hole, and he is a smart passing point. He shot 48.7% overall, and averaged 7.2 assists and 3.2 steals per game.

In case you're interested, we did a feature story about Ron back on February 20, 1988. Congratulations to Ron and to Wayne Morgan.
