Nike National Championships:
How To Get There--(July 29, 1998)

Once again, a brief recap so you know what we're talking about: The Nike National Championships will be held in San Diego on the campus of USIU at the SportCenter. The tournament starts tomorrow, July 30, and continues through August 29. It is an invitation only tournament. It will feature 15 teams in four pools, and will showcase some of the best players in the country.

We can't vouch for these directions, but they are from Ollie Goulston, who is the Director of High Five America. If you're going to this tournament, then you'll want to find USIU, United States International University, specifically the SportCenter. Here are the directions:

If you are coming from the San Diego Airport:

Take US Interstate 5 South from the Airport.
Then take 163 North.
Connect to 15 North
Exit at Miramar/Pomerado Road east (go right)
Take a right turn at Willow Creek onto the Campus of USIU
Bear to your right, and the Sport Center will be on the top of the hill on the right

If you are driving from the Los Angeles, Orange County, or North San Diego County area:

Take 405 South to the 5 South
Connect to 78 East (around Oceanside/Vista area)
***Be careful, because the 78 exit is not well marked
Continue to the 15 South. Take 15 South to Maramar/Pomerado Road east (left).
***Do Not Take the Pomerado Road exit to Poway!!!
Take a right at Willow Creek onto the USIU campus.
Follow the directions above (i.e., Bear right, and the SportCenter will be on the top of the hill to your right.

If you are really good, have a map and are adventurous, throw the above directions away (or don't print them) and just drive south until you get to 10455 Pomerado Road, which is the address of the SportCenter.

If you really get lost, as a last resort, you can call the SportCenter at 676-4872 or (619) 536-3211. If you can actually get out of their voice mail hell, then great. You might try extension 111 (which is Ollie's extension) or you might get lucky and reach Steve Russo, the General Manager of the SportCenter (who actually gets the credit for finally getting all of the info to us, thanks Steve).
