Ventura County North-South
All-Star Game Tonight--(June 6, 1998)

Just in case you thought the Orange County Roundball Classic was the only game in town in SoCal tonight, think again. Tonight at Ventura High. The girls game begins at 6 p.m., and the boys all-star game is scheduled to start at 8 p.m.

While the LA Times Ventura-Valley Edition did have a little article on the game, they neglected to publish the location or time of the games. We want to thank the Ventura County Star Online for publishing that info.

The Times did feature a story about one of the players who will be in the boys' game tonight, Keith Donahue (6'-2" Sr. PG) who will walk on at Cal State Chico next season. Donahue, of Moorpark High is getting a "second chance at a happy ending to his high school career." His last game was probably a bad memory. With Moorpark trailing by a basket in a Southern Section Division II-A second-round playoff game in February, Donahue missed two free throws with one second to play and the Musketeers fell, 69-67. Donahue is looking for a fun time tonight. "I expect it to be a true all-star game, real wide open," Donahue said. Donahue, a 6-foot-2 point guard who averaged 18.2 points, 6.1 rebounds and 4.4 assists, will be joined on the South squad by Moorpark teammates Kevin Lawrence and Byron Burnett, and Coach Tim Bednar.

Besides the chance for redemption, Donahue relishes the opportunity to team again with friend Lawrence, who averaged 23.5 points and 12.6 rebounds. "I loved playing with Kevin," Donahue told the Times. "We had a lot of practices and games together, and after our sophomore season, we really started blending together." Lawrence (6'-5" Sr. F) said, "We've always kind of hung out together, and just from all the games in the park and at school, we got to know each other like nobody else. It was always Kevin and Keith, Keith and Kevin. I can't tell you how many times I've been called Keith and he's been called Kevin."

The South girls will be coached by Don McMaster of Westlake High, while the North girls are coached by Emily Stenzel of Santa Paula.

The boys will be coached by Tim Bednar of Moorpark (South) and Harry Burns of Fillmore (North).

And interestingly enough, Ian Boys, who it turns out may be a better volleyball player than he is a basketball player, is also scheduled to play tonight, but in the Ventura County "East-West" Volleyball All-Star game for the East team (what's up with this "East-West" and "North-South" business anyway?). Since he can't be in two places at once---the volleyball game will be played at Moorpark college, and is scheduled for the same time, 8:00 p.m ., as the basketball game, we're guessing that you won't be seeing him in the basketball game.

For the girls, the players will be :

South girls: Elizabeth Nesbitt, Elena Salvador and Katie Stanulas of Thousand Oaks; Alicia Weber, Becca Voight and Jessica Sanders of Royal; Megan Skelly and Michelle Pollara of Agoura. North girls: Renae Hoffman, Karen McAleney and Robyn Frost of Buena; Rhiannon Potkey of Ventura; Nell Becker and Erin Barker of Nordhoff; Amy Rosario of St. Bonaventure; Erica Vint of Santa Paula; Alma Perez of Channel Islands; Sosanna Hallahan of Santa Clara.
