Valley Summer Tip-Off Classic
At Harvard-Westlake--(June 25, 1998)

The Valley Sports Foundation runs a sumemr tournament each year, and this year it's taking place at Harvard-Westlake in Studio City, just off Coldwater Canyon a few blocks south of Ventura Blvd. The tournament got underway on Monday and Tuesday, and continued yesterday with the championship round, which will finish today with the semifinal games between Harvard-Westlake and Cleveland at 3:00 p.m., Muir v. Burbank at 4:00 p.m., and the Championship game at 7:30 p.m.

The pool play included Crossroads, Milken, Harvard-Westlake, Glendale, Muir, Valencia, Burbank, and Cleveland. The results of the early round games were:

Monday, June 22, 1998

Crossroads 55, Milken 36
Harvard-Westlake 82, Valencia 50
Burbank 48, Milken 44
Glendale 65, Valencia 64
Glendale 64, Muir 38
Cleveland 93, Crossroads 61

Tuesday June 23

Cleveland 84, Milken 36
Harvard Westlake 57, Glendale 56
Burbank 72, Crossroads 43
Valencia 46, Muir 86
Cleveland def. Burbank (no score available)
Mur 79, Harvard-Westlake 44

Wednesday June 24--Championship Round

Harvard Westlake 54, Milken 34
Muir def. Crossroads (no score available)
Burbank 40, Glendale 37
Cleveland def. Valencia (no score available)

The leading scorer in all games so far is Kent Dennis from Cleveland with 50 points; Eric Rowher (6'-9" Sr. C) from Burbank is the second leading rebounder with 23 total boards in two days of play. Parker from Muir leads with 35 boards. We'll find out more about him today. And the weirdest stat of all for a tournament has got to be this one: Ingraham of Valencia leads with the "most charges taken in a game" at 4.

We were unable to actually get out to see this one, and are just a bit puzzled about which Crossroads team showed up yesterday for the game against Muir, since Crossroads with Isaiah Fox (6'-9" So. F/C), Chad Gordon (6'-3" Sr. G), Alex Gerston (6'-3" Sr. F) and Felipe Williams (6'-3" Jr. G) were all over at Artesia for the Best in the West day one.

In any event, if you're over in the Valley, you might want to catch this one.
