Orange County Roundball Extravaganza Tomorrow Night--(June 5, 1998)

We made an announcement about this one on May 5, but now it's time to remind everyone that tomorrow night at Capistrano Valley High (that's Saturday, June 6), a whole bunch of Orange County's top returning high school basketball players will be featured in the Roundball Extravaganza.

Among the players scheduled to play in the 8 p.m. game are Nate Hair and J.J. Sola, both of whom recently transferred from Aliso Niguel to Capistrano Valley, and they are among the top rising seniors in Orange County. Sola was a first-team All-O.C. player this season and Hair, slowed by injury his junior year, but in good form and playing for the Pump-N-Run I Team, is expected to be heavily recruited. Spencer Gloger and Kelly Kramer, key reserve players for Santa Margarita's state championship team, are scheduled to play, as are Aliso's Seneca Kern; Capistrano Valley's Jermaine McDaniel and Mike Stowell; Dana Hills' Jeremy Cooley; Fountain Valley's Ryan Moreau; Irvine's Chris Ferguson; Laguna Hills' Josh Pierson; Woodbridge's Scott Barlow; El Toro's Wes Decoit; Laguna Beach's Kurt Beimfohr; Mission Viejo's Joey Reid; University's Larry Johnson; Trabuco Hills' Brandon Martin and Brennen Martin; San Clemente's Joe Tatala, and Century's Mike Zepeda. We haven't received confirmation yet about Jerry Inzunza, but if he doesn't play, we know at least one of our readers who will just go absolutely nuts about it. (Just kidding).

The event will include an NJB All-Net (i.e, a 14-U??) game at 5 p.m., a "Fire Department vs. Sheriff Department" game at 6 p.m. , and a "Celebrities vs. Pro Athletes" game at 7 p.m.. Among the former pros set to play are ex-heavyweight champion Ken Norton; ex-Laker Norm Nixon; and a Rams alumni group of Ron Brown, Reggie Doss, Ron Jessie and Lawrence McCutcheon. Tickets, available at the Capistrano Valley gym Saturday, are $7 for adults, $5 for students and $3 for children 12 and under.
