The Palm Springs Summer Classic will take place Friday June 19, Saturday June 20, and Sunday June 21, 1998. All games will be played at Palm Springs High.

The games get underway on Friday at 3:00 p.m. with Calvary going up against La Quinta; at 4:00 p.m. Fairmont takes on Palo Verde. At 5:00 p.m. St. Paul takes on Coachella. At 6:00 p.m. Hesperia will play Ayala. At 7:00 p.m. Buckley will play Buena Park, and finally at 8:00 p.m. Palm Springs will take on South Torrance.

7:00 p.m. Calvary v. Fairmont
8:00 p.m. Palo Verde v. La Quinta

The Sunday schedule for Father's Day means that most people won't be going out for Sunday brunch. The 11th place game is set for 8:00 a.m.; 9th is at 9:00 a.m., 7th place is at 10:00 a.m., 5th place is scheduled for 11 a.m., 3rd at Noon, and finally the Championship game is set for 1:00 p.m.

Most of these teams will feature younger players trying to make their way onto their teams varsity rosters for the fall. We know about a few of the teams, including those who are returning from Ayala, coached by Tom Gregory, including Jock May (6'-7" Sr. F), Chasen Jones (5'-11" Jr. PG), Ekene Agwuene (6'-3" Jr. F), Daniel Sherman (6'-6" Sr. F) and Dave Winans (6'-2" Sr. F). (Note: We are now using the next year's class designation, i.e, the class they will join in the fall). Ayala should still be tough even though they will have lost the services of Shane Unrein (6'-5" Sr. F), and Roman Dolven (6'-7" Sr. C) to graduation, along with A.T. Simmons (6'-1" Sr. PG), Jay Espinoza (6'-0" Sr. SG), and Dave Winans (6'-2" Sr. F).

We also know a bit about some of the Buckley players, coached by Dan Haasch. Joining the team will be returning varsity players Adam Pastor (5'-11" Jr. PG/SG), Colin Ward-Henninger (6'-6" So. F/C), Alex Clancy (5'-10" So. G), and rising freshman David Gale (5'-10" Fr. PG/SG). Others on the team include Simon Loenov, Jake Scannel (6'-6" So. F), Mike Pakravan, Mike Lalezarian, Murali Sivilingam, and Ben Keywanfar.

We'll try to keep everyone informed on the results of all the tournaments going on this weekend, and if you happen to be at any of them, let us know what you saw by sending an e-mail report.

See you there.
