Zamiro Bennem Is An Anteater,
Signs LOI With UCI--(April 9,1998)

Zamiro Bennem, (6'-3" Sr. G), from Magnolia High in Orange County, who averaged 24 points, six rebounds and six assists per game this year, and who was named the the Orange County Register's Player of the Year, signed his National Letter of Intent with UC Irvine on Wednesday, ultimately deciding to stay home, and rejecting a late offer from Witchita State. Bennem had earlier committed orally to UCI, but last week accepted an invitation to make a visit to Witchita. He came back last Thursday, thought about it over the weekend, and decided to stick with his original choice.

"Being close to home was important," Bennem told the Register yesterday. "And I like Pat Douglass. He's building a program at UCI, and I want to be part of it."

Congratulations to the Anteaters and to Zamiro.
