McDonald's All-American Game: To Be Played
This Wednesday--(March 23, 1998)

Now that the high school basketball season is officially over, and the summer traveling teams are just getting back together, it's time for that strange interlude known as "All-Star Game" time. There's the Eddie Jones Classic here in L.A., and several others around the country, including the Derby Classic All-Star game, which will be played in Louisville, Kentucky. We'll have more on those two events later.

But for now, you should know about the one truly "All-Star" event: The McDonald's All-American High School Basketball Game. This will be the 21st time the event has been put on, and so as not to conflict with the Final Four hoopla, the game will be played on Wednesday, March 25, 1998 and will start at 8:00 p.m. EST-- that's 5:00 p.m. for those of us here in SoCal who want to see Tayshaun Prince, the only SoCal nominee to make it on the team, provided his knee is up to it following the injury sustained during the Southern Section quarterfinals; Tayshaun didn't play in the Southern Section semifinal game against Compton, and Dominguez lost the game and closed out it's season and Prince's high school career.

The game will be televised live on ESPN from the Scope Cultural and Convention Center in Norfolk, VA.

Additional coverage of McDonald's All American High School Basketball Game activities on ESPN includes the "Sprite Slam Jam", a one-hour show featuring All American Team members in a 3-point shootout and slam dunk competition to be broadcast immediately following the Game.

Apparently both the game and the Slam Jam will be rebroadcast, although that's not what McDonald's says on their website. They've actually got the game being "replayed". Here's the direct quote from the website:

"The Sprite Slam Jam will be repeated on Sat. Mar. 28, 1998 from 12N-1:00pm on ESPN and on Mon 3/30 at 12:30-1:30 a.m. on ESPN2. The Game will be replayed on Thurs. 3/26 at 4:00-5:30 pm on ESPN."

We're guessing that when they replay the game, it will be an entirely different result. Be sure to watch both times to find out. :-)
