Upland Tournament Results
First Two Days--(Dec. 10, 1998)

As we mentioned last week, Upland is hosting their own tournament this week, and it features teams from LA Locke, Garey, Valley View, Temple City, Palm Springs, Rancho Cucamonga, and LA City section Dorsey in addition to host Upland.  

Tuesday's results in pool play (at least the ones we were able to get) were:

Upland 64, Garey 38-- Upland just hammered Garey, holding them to only 3 points in the first quarter. Upland improves to 2-1. Desmond Penigar scored 13 to lead Upland. Scoring for Upland was accomplished by Strand 9, Pace 2, Pruitt 5, Santos 4, Musa 3, Mellern 5, Harris 2, and Penigear with 13.Garey's scoring was Sarmeento 3, Shaddock 5, Hadder 5, Hogan 5, Ponder 4, Thompson 3, Hill 9, Horagon 4.

Temple City 70, Rancho Cucamonga 69-- We didn't get any other details besides the line score on this one, and other than these two games we didn't get the rest of the Tuesday results.

Yesterday's game schedule in pool play was

Locke vs. Garey, 3:30 p.m.:
Valley View vs. Temple City, 5 p.m.
Upland vs. Palm Springs, 6:30 p.m.
Rancho Cucamonga vs. Dorsey, 8 p.m.

In the first game, Locke beat Garey, 85-35, and in the second game, Moreno Valley Valley View beat Temple City 87 to 73. We weren't able to get any details of those games, but we do have the Upland v. Palm Springs game. We also don't have anything more than a score for the last game, but Rancho Cucamonga beat Dorsey, 66-53. Here's the Upland v. Palm Springs score:

Upland 65, Palm Springs 56--The first quarter was crucial to the win for Upland as they jumped out to a 28-11 lead at the end of the first quarter. Desmond Penigar led Upland with 17 before fouling out, while Matt Santos had 7 points. Palm Springs' scoring was Caldwell 6, Robetcky 2, Rangal 13, Hiqueres 17, Custer 11, Diaz 8. Upland scorers were Strand 12, Pace 2, Santos 7, Musa 4, Harris 12, Penigar 17, Busam 8, Hamilton 3.
With the win, Upland improves to a 3-1.

We know that pool play continues today, but we haven't received the schedule yet.  Games will begin at 3:30 at Upland High, so if you're in the area, check it out.
