Irvine World News Tournament Finals Saturday--(Dec. 18, 1998)

Tonight marked the semifinals of the Irvine World News Tournament at Irvine High.  The finals are scheduled for Saturday at Concordia University.  The Championship game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. and The consolation championship is set for 11:00 a.m..  Third place is set to take place at 4:00 p.m. Fifth at 2:30 p.m. Seventh at 12:30 p.m. and the Consolation Third place at 9:30 a.m.

Here's the semifinal schedule which was played tonight

At Irvine High School :

4:30 p.m. Vista v. Huntington Beach (Consolation 5th Place Semifinal)
6:00 p.m.Mark Keppel v. Dana Hills (Consolation Semifial)
7:30 p.m. Irvine v. La Costa Canyon (Championship Semifinal)

At Woodbridge High School:

4:30 p.m. Nogales v. Estancia (Consolation 5th Place Semifinal)
6:00 p.m. Cajon v. Fountain Valley  (Consolation Semifinal)
7:30 p.m. Newport Harbor v. Woodbridge

At University High:

6:00 p.m. St. Paul v. University (5th Place Semifinal)
7:30 p.m. San Clement v. Oceanside (5th Place Semifinal)

We'll have the results sometime tomorrow (hopefully) before we leave for Vegas.  In the meantime, here are the results from Wednesday (given the lack of any results in any paper on Friday, we're guessing that no games were played Thursday):

Wednesday's quarterfinal games that we know about

Irvine 60, Santa Fe Springs St. Paul 47--Tim Rapp led with 17 points and Chris Ferguson had 11 for Irvine, which will play La Costa Canyon in a semifinal game at 7:30 p.m. Friday. 

La Costa Canyon 61, University 59--Brian Faulstich had 24 points to help the Mavericks hold off the Trojans. University was led in scoring by Ryan Zinchefky with 13 points. 

Newport Harbor 61, Oceanside 45--It was a close game up until the third quarter when Newport Harbor took the lead for good. Matt Jameson had 15 points and teammate Alan Limon 12 to lead the Sailors in the quarterfinal game. Newport Harbor will play Woodbridge in the semifinals at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Woodbridge 60, San Clemente 57--Scott Barlow had 29 points (13 in the fourth quarter) and made the winning three-point shot with 6/10ths of a second left. Barlow, who made four three-point shots, is in his second game back after leading Woodbridge to a Southern Section championship in football.
