Artesia Kills Cabrillo, 111-21 In
Gahr-Cerritos Tourney--(Dec. 2, 1998)

We didn't get out to this one, but it was a real mugging.   Here are the high(low) lights:

Artesia 111, Cabrillo 21: The Pioneers, the top ranked team in the state and sixth in the nation, used a balanced attack en route to easily beating the Conquistadores in the first round of pool play at Gahr High. Jack Martinez led Artesia (1-0) with 17 points and nine rebounds while senior forward Jason Kapono contributed 13 points and eight rebounds. Artesia will play again on Thursday against Pioneer at 6 p.m. at Gahr. Cabrillo (0-1) is playing varsity basketball for the first time ever in school history.

Cerritos 64, Narbonne 59: Junior forward Anthony Alexandar scored 20 points and Jeff Villwock added 13 as the Dons outlasted the Gauchos in pool play action at Cerritos.

Gahr 91, Norwalk 47: Senior guard Marques Jordan had 22 points and senior guard Anthony Davis added 21 to go along with 10 assists and six steals as the host Gladiators beat the Lancers in the opener for both schools. Michael Williams also scored 20 points for Gahr with 18 coming in the first half. James Perkins chipped in with 12 while pulling down 16 rebounds. Abel Lumakang had 11 points to lead Norwalk who will now play Gardena today at 6 p.m. at Gahr.

St. John Bosco 69, Millikan 59: Sophomore guard Lewie Helton had 20 points and senior guard Larry Demic added 13 to lead the Braves (1-0) past the Rams in a pool play match-up at Cerritos High.  Shawn Burris led Millikan with 12 points.
