Fresno Buchanan Invitational Tournament--(Dec. 4, 1998)
Our friend Marty Hartwig, who is up in the Fresno area, sent us the scores and matchups for the Fresno Buchannan Tournament for yesterday (results) and today (matchups). Here are the results from Thursday's 12/3 games:
Fresno Washington Union 81, Monache 44
Clovis 69, Madera 46
Canoga Park 85, Hoover 70
Clovis West 78, Inglewood 66
Edison 75, Buchanan 54
Highland 66, Centennial-Compton 62
Wow. Washington was down by 3 at the end of the first quarter and then "rallied" (to outscore Monache by almost 40 points) to put it mildly. There was also some confusion between the articles published in the Bee and the linescores. The article says it was DeShawn Stevenson who scored 15, but according to the line scores it was DeShawn Anderson who scored 15 and Stevenson scored 30 which is much more likely.
And a bunch of good LA area schools are also losing. Compton-Centennial loses to Highland. Inglewood loses to Clovis West. And apparently Sylmar beat Chatsworth, but we didn't get the score; the Daily News will probably have it tomorrow. Clovis West is apparently loaded. And so is Edison, which now has Chris Lopez (6'-7" Jr. PF) who transfered in and scored 23 points as Edison lost to Washington Union. He also had 25 points as Edison beat Highland (Bakersfield) by a score of 97-46. Edison has a couple of other D-I players, including EBO's Willie Johnson (6'-4" Sr. SG) and Joe Gilliam (6'-3" Sr. Sg). Someone over at West Coast Hoops was also kind enough to post some information on the fan forum (we wish we could remember who it was, but we didn't catch the name) and they also listed Richard Manning, a 6'-9" guy, and 6-0 Joe Walton. They also listed other key players as Donald Hollingsworth, Joe Daniel, and Vincent Beltran.
Anyway, here are today's matchups:
Centennial-Compton vs Hoover
Buchanan vs Inglewood
Golden West vs Madera
Monache vs Chatsworth
Highland vs Canoga Park
Edison vs Clovis West
Lemoore vs Clovis
Washington vs Sylmar
We'll try to keep everyone updated as our friend Marty Hartwig continues to feed us the scores and information from Fresno
