Wesley Stokes To Announce
Tomorrow At LB Poly--(Nov. 11, 1999)

SCAWesley2.jpg (6726 bytes)We just got off the phone with Long Beach Poly Coach Ron Palmer, and he confirmed for us that Wesley Stokes (5'-11" Sr. PG) from Long Beach Poly will hold a press conference tomorrow at the high school, at which time he will make a formal announcment about his selection of a college.  "While he's had great visits with a lot of schools, and he's really had good relationships with the coaches at all the schools who have been recruiting him, I think the choices are going to come down to Missouri and San Diego State," Palmer told us tonight.   That would not seem to bode well for USC, Texas or Oregon State, all of which have also been recruiting Wesley.  San Diego State was a late entrant, and Wesley went down to San Diego a week ago and participated in an impromptu pickup game with a lot of the players from the team. "Coach Fisher is really getting it done, and he's bringing in some top rate players," said Coach Palmer, referring to the recent signings of Aerick Sanders and Chris Walton. "While they already have two good point guards, they are not deep at the position, and Wesley would help them tremendously," Coach Palmer noted.

Wesley's family concerns could play a big factor in determining where he goes to school.  Most recruiting pundits are predicting that Missouri has Wesley locked up, but it appears that San Diego State may have a real shot.   We'll all find out tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. at the press conference, which will be held in the administration building at the school.  Stay tuned, and we'll have the word as soon as an announcment is made.
