Tournament Week Kickoff:
Reebok Compton Tip Off Classic--(Nov. 28, 1998)

This Monday, Nov. 30,  marks the beginning of one of the busiest times for teams in high school basketball, the beginning of the December tournament madness.  Actually, it's not just tournaments, but also includes non-league single game exhibitions. One of the best of these will be the Second Annual Reebok Compton Tip-Off Classic.  We've done the program materials for this exhibition (we just hope Etop proofread the stuff before sending it to the printers), and these should be some of the best matchups of the year.

The printed program materials will only feature small blurbs on each of the teams, if you want the full profiles, they are available by clicking on the links.  It's not like we haven't been hyping this event all along, but on the off-chance you missed any of our earlier articles, here's the schedule, with links to the previews for each team (including a small review of
Pomona, which is probably smaller because we couldn't get Derrick Pugh to return our calls and he was impossible to reach at the school.  But that's a different story.

Here's the schedule, for the umpteenth time:

November 30: December 1:
4:30: Ayala v Serra:
6:00: LB Jordan v JW North
7:30: LB Poly v Bishop Montgomery
5:00: Pomona v Bishop's School
6:30: Dominguez v Crossroads
8:00: Compton v Lynwood

You'll want to catch all of these games. Compton College, is located at 1111 E. Artesia Boulevard, Compton, CA 90221 (just thought we'd throw in the zip code for you anyway in case you want to mail yourself there ahead of time). To get to Compton College if you are coming from the North (i.e., the Valley, Pasadena, anywhere north of Compton: If you are coming from the Westside or the Valley, take either the 405 or the 110 Harbor Freeway south to the 91. Take the 91 east and take the Alameda Street offramp, and go north about a block to Artesia Blvd, and turn right. The college will be on your
left (north). The gym entrance is off of Artesia on Delta Ave. If you are coming from the northeast (Pasadena) take the 710 Long Beach Freeway south to the 91 west, and get off on Santa Fe/Alameda (it's the first exit after the interchange). If you're coming from the south, just reverse the freeway directions. However you do it, you want to get to the 91 and exit at Alameda or Santa Fe.

And if you need further information on the Reebok Compton Tip-Off Classic, call Etop at at 562-901-8592 or coach Palmer at 310-609-9871.

Don't miss it. We'll see you there.
