Russell Lakey Still Considering Others
Besides Ivy League--(Oct. 10, 1999)

We attended Harvard-Westlake's (er, make that the "Saracens') game at the ARC Varsity II league this afternoon at LA Poly High against a team called "Silver", which turned out not to be the guys from Grant High as we had been told, but Pacific Hills' varsity instead.  After the game we spoke for a while with Russell and his dad, Fred Lakey, and they informed us that Russell has not eliminated any schools from his list, and indeed, neither have the school eliminated him from theirs.  He will still take a visit up to Santa Clara (albeit an unofficial so that he can save his official visits for the schools in the East), and his family has been just missing the LMU coaches calls, but they hope to set up something in the near future. "No, we have not eliminated any schools from consideration," said Fred Lakey.   "We've just decided that for now, we'll reserve all the official visits for the Ivy League, because with the other two schools that Russell is considering, Loyola and Santa Clara, they are close enough that we can make unofficial visits," Fred told us.   "I'd still love to have him play on the West Coast, but it looks like there are more schools on the East Coast that are interested, so the odds of him staying home are probably not as good as the odds that he'll go East for school.  But right now, we're leaving all the options open and we'll wait to see what happens in the next few weeks."
